Dr. Ferguson: “Helping you find your way!”
There are a myriad of life situations which may cause stress. This may include but not limited to work issues, going away to
school, or an illness. Even positive events such as a marriage, moving into a new home or graduating from an educational
program may cause stress. Usually people adjust to such changes within a few months. However if you continue to feel anxious, depressed and/or self-destructive, you may have an adjustment disorder. An adjustment disorder is usually a stress-related mental illness and you have a hard time adjusting to change in your life. Your day to day routine may feel overwhelming, or you may make poor/reckless decisions. Some immediate ways to relieve stress would be deep breathing exercises, turning on soothing music or getting active (light physical activity). Most importantly you do not need to feel alone. Speaking with a trusted professional is getting back on the road in the right direction.
